Connect a conventional machine

To connect a conventional machine (or an older machine without a usable control interface) to Scout MES, we use our BIOS-IO-01 module. It takes a signal from the machine, e.g. the run signal from the signal tower, and sends it over the LAN.

What data Scout gets through BIOS-IO-01

  • machine running
  • input states
  • pulse counters
  • part counter, if a suitable signal is connected to the input

Requirements: BIOS-IO-01 is connected to your LAN. The signals from the machine are wired to its digital inputs.

How the connection works

BIOS-IO-01 sends the signals over your factory LAN. SCT (Scout Configuration Tool) runs as Windows services on a computer in your network and sends the data to the Scout server over HTTPS, so you do not need to open any inbound ports. We install and configure SCT remotely. You prepare a Windows computer in the LAN; we agree with you which signals from the machine to connect.

Our BIOS family also has modules with relay outputs, e.g. for signal lights: BIOS-IO-02 (4 digital inputs and 4 relay outputs) and BIOS-IO-03 (8 relay outputs). See Legacy machine monitoring.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect a conventional machine to Scout?

Through our BIOS-IO-01 module. A signal from the machine, e.g. the run signal from the signal tower, is connected to an input of the module, and the module sends it over the LAN.

Can Scout count parts on a conventional machine?

Yes, if a suitable signal is connected to the BIOS-IO-01 module.

Who sets up the connection?

We do, remotely. You prepare a Windows computer in your LAN and send us the list of machines; we install and configure SCT and connect the machines. To add a machine later, you write to us and we change the configuration remotely.
