Operator call boxes / andon calls

BIOS-UX-02 boxes – simple communication on the production floor

In manufacturing every second counts, and the simplest solutions often bring the biggest savings. With an andon call system at the machine, the operator makes a call with one button, and Scout records it straight away.

That is why we designed BIOS-UX-02 – a physical interface for Scout MES that brings andon calls right to the workstation, without rolling out expensive and fragile mobile devices.

BIOS-UX-02 box with four buttons for andon calls

How does it work?

BIOS-UX-02 is a simple, effective device connected to the company LAN.

The box is mounted right at the machine and has four large illuminated buttons (green, yellow, blue and red). With one press the operator signals an event, and Scout MES automatically records it, lights up the active button and starts the right processes on the server side.

With the buttons, the operator can quickly report different situations, e.g.:

  • Green button: a delivery request (e.g. raw material needs to be delivered)
  • Yellow button: a pick-up request (e.g. finished parts need to be collected)
  • Blue button: changeover (an operator activity)
  • Red button: a breakdown call (an urgent call for maintenance)

When a button is pressed, Scout MES:

  • shows the andon calls for that machine in the “ANDON Requests” view, with their “Status” and “Duration”,
  • lights up the button, so the operator knows the call has been received by the system,
  • sends e-mail or SMS notifications to the right people,
  • records the event in the system together with the response time, until the call is completed,
  • lets you analyse downtime and its causes in MES reports.

The simplicity operators need

This solution was designed for the realities of the shop floor:

  • no tablets or touch screens that break or run flat,
  • large physical buttons – clear and easy for every operator,
  • easy to use from day one,
  • designed for work at the machine.

The operator does not have to pick from a menu, log in or look for a contact – they just press a button.

Make communication on the shop floor as simple as pressing a button.
